Cognito's Music Featured in Dead Tone The new movie Dead Tone, a horror flick presented by Flavor Flav, features a few tracks by Cognito! Check out the trailer! Success for Cognito’s Strange Music Debut is AUTOMATIC Featuring Tech N9ne, B- Legit, Krizz Kaliko, Brotha Lynch Hung (Los Angeles, CA. – March 2010) – 4-20 only comes once a year, and this April 20, COGNITO offers a smokin’ surprise: His continuation of “So High,” a popular joint from his first album, rolls on with “I’m So High, Part 2.” With this ode to potheads, and 16 other hits from his Strange Music debut, titled AUTOMATIC, fans will come to know the real COGNITO.
According to the Bay Area rapper, the title of his debut is a statement - plain and simple. When you hear the word, it means business is getting done.
At Strange Music, artists sell records being true, loyal and portraying themselves for who they are.
With “Outcast,” his first single/video, COGNITO sticks to the script that the average fan can relate to. Already racking up thousands of hits online, it captures the struggle and isolation felt by the average dude.
Not a fan of packing his project with features, COGNITO welcomes Strange founder Tech N9ne and fellow labelmate Krizz Kaliko on several standout tracks, including the feel-good second single, “Born 2 Be Fly.” The Seven-produced “Violated” also features the reigning rap triumvirate. It’s on the freaky side, seducing both sexes with raunchy pillow talk. Another Seven-produced soon-to-be classic, “Hip-Hop” catches Tech N9ne, B-Legit and Cognito weighing in on the state of Hip-Hop.
On “Pill Poppin’ Music” featuring Brotha Lynch Hung and “Seven School Sins,” COGNITO showcases his rule-breaking, mischievous sense of humor. Another up-tempo, party-jam is “I Live Life,” crafted by longtime collaborator, Femi.
Whether rhyming over a club beat or on a serious track, COGNITO remains a genuine storyteller, which he proves on several heartfelt raps, specifically “Depression” and “Pain.” On “Me Be Me” he deflects criticism, firing, “I’m not a gimmick.”
Supported by Strange Music, the self-professed outcast has finally found his place within a musical family. As his debut demonstrates, this has had a huge impact on the hardworking wordsmith, allowing him to unleash his creative side.
After 10 years of fierce perseverance and self-reflection, it’s clear that COGNITO’s success is AUTOMATIC.
“People who know me, know I'm going to bust ass consistently until I make something happen,” says Bay Area rapper COGNITO. “Every day, every minute — and I'm not going to rest until I do it.”
After grinding for 10 years, working with different indie labels and flirting with fame, Cognito has found the perfect label to call home: Strange Music, one of the most successful independent music labels in the world.
“They work hard like I work hard,” assures COGNITO. “They put everything into their artists.”
